Red Vinter was formed in the summer of 2023 by vocalist/bassist Mike Bullock (Indestroy, Ironchrist) and drummer James Achilles. The band released a demo, We Built Our Own Death Machine by year’s end. In 2024, guitarist J LeBrasseur joined the group in time to record the debut EP Into The Deep, which later won Metal Digest’s Album of the Month. Soon after, lead guitarist Dylan Jones joined and the quartet recorded their debut, critically-acclaimed, full-length album, Lumbering Menace, which dropped in the summer of 2025.

The band started working on their second full length album, Ghost in the Fog, in late summer of 2025.

Red Vinter’s music, often described as heavy, catchy and unique, brings influences from a wide array of bands and genres.

Fans and critics compare Red Vinter to Celtic Frost, Godflesh, Monolord and Obituary. The band themselves cite a divergent span of inspirations from classical music such as Rachmaninoff to progressive metal titans Voivod, along with Black Sabbath, Slayer, Tool and Bolt Thrower.

Over the course of their existence, they’ve played shows with Living Through Ghosts, Northern Hammer, Rust Bucket, Plague of Stars, Thundergoat and many more. Red Vinter also holds a featured role at Sinkfest, the annual Minneapolis doom/sludge metal festival.
